BarnOwl was a proud sponsor at the 2018 ‘Not on my watch’ Cruywagen-IRMSA Risk Foundation Risk Lab which took place in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
“Considering the many companies and personalities that have been damaged by leadership indiscretions in the recent past, every risk professional should be committing to a personal goal of “Not on my Watch!”
South Africa 2018 and beyond remains an uncertain place for business, organisations and individuals and it is clear, as we look at the challenges that we all are facing, that robust conversations are needed, and at this time transparency and clarity is a must. If risk management is properly embedded within an organisation and a strong risk management culture adopted, we will see more organisations being able to maintain stability during times of difficulty and seize the ‘opportunities’ that come their way to prosper.
The Risk Laboratory is focused on providing risk professionals and business leaders insights and guidance on how to develop and increase predictive capability; scenario building and taking up the role of mind-changers that influence leadership and embrace the benefits that big thinking around big data can offer risk management.
The number of risks that have materialised over the past 18 months and considering how many of those risks were highlighted since 2015, is indicative that knowledge of the risks is not enough. IRMSA believes that the future risk professional must shift the focus from just being risk process facilitators to becoming translators of data into workable risk information that leads to action! …but even more is required. Risk managers should be “the ultimate integrators” of strategic and business risk information and influencing leadership on how to best respond to uncertainty – to deal with the future!
Over the past 24 months, IRMSA has been driving change management initiatives with themes like “Future Fit Risk Managers”, and “Lead 2017”. For 2018, our theme is “Big Thinkers”.
“Big Thinkers” because IRMSA believes that in such uncertain times, risk management should be leading and guiding business and be courageous enough to grasp the opportunity to play a leading role in the board agenda, discussions and strategy.”
It was great to catch up with many of our clients as well as meet many new people.
